Development firm takes large next step in Southaven

An industrial real estate firm with offices in Chicago and Nashville is readying another development in Southaven — and this one is much larger than its first.

Founded in 2013, Distribution Realty Group (DRG) entered the Mid-South last year with a 160,000-square-foot warehouse at the southwest corner of Airways Boulevard and Stateline Road, behind a Walgreens.

On Jan. 7, the group received approval from the city's board of aldermen to construct a 810,000-square-foot warehouse on the north side of Stateline Road, just west of the Grenada Railroad and Hwy. 51.

According to DRG's website, the facility would become their second largest property; 11 of the 16 projects on the website are smaller than 200,000 square feet.

Whitney Choat-Cook, Southaven's director of planning and development, said she doesn't expect construction on the project to start until spring.

DRG founder Jimmy Love did not respond to multiple requests for comment for this article.

When discussing his original Southaven project with the MBJ last year, Love said he liked the area's labor pool, "predictable tax situation," and quick access to Memphis International Airport.

Many of the company's other warehouses are also located in close proximity to airports.

On DRG's application to Southaven, GMA Architects is listed as the architect and ARCO/Murray Design Build is listed as the general contractor.
